|Orange Beach City Administrator weather statement:|
January 29, 2014 - Orange Beach, AL (OBA) - Winter Storm impacts continue and City of Orange Beach public works crews worked through the night and all day to sand and breakup ice on major intersections and bridges.
The Perdido Pass Bridge is open, however ice does exist and motorists should use extreme caution.
The Beach Express Bridge is Closed ice and conditions would not allow crews to thaw this bridge. Slope and angle of the bridge makes it more difficult for this. We expect conditions to improve on Thursday as temps rise allowing for sanding to assist the thaw.
North and south access to the island is only through the Alabama 59 bridge in Gulf Shores.
Ono Island Bridge has been sanded and has had no issues today for residents of Ono.
The Orange Beach Community Center is open and will remain open throughout the night for anyone seeking a warming shelter. This is open to anyone on Pleasure Island needing heat.
City staff are working shifts to man the facility. Located on Canal Road just across from OB Fire Station 2 approximately two miles east of Alabama 161. Anyone choosing to utilize the shelter should bring any comfort items, blanket, food, etc.
Orange Beach Fire and Orange Beach Police are able to respond to any locations on the island at this time. In case of an emergency call 911.
City Residential Trash services will resume on Saturday (NOT Friday) as Allied Waste works to get back on schedule. Delays are due to icy roads and landfill closures.
Residential Recycling services will NOT occur this week and all residences will have Recycling pickup next Wednesday, Feb 5. Recycling is the Grey Lid can.
City Offices will be open at 8 a.m. for normal hours of operation but some services may be limited. Staff will be reporting in as roads are safe.
Most Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed on Thursday including Recreation Center, Tennis, Aquatics, Golf Course, Sportsplex and staff will report when safe and begin cleanup and maintenance.
Almost no reported electric outages last night or today for Orange Beach. Baldwin EMC is to be commended for preps with lines and switches improvements in the city aiding in keeping power on.
