|Welcome centers to offer demonstrations for visitors|
January 4, 2014 - Gulf Shores, AL (GSA) and Orange Beach, AL (OBA) – Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism (CVB) is set to host a schedule of activities at the local welcome centers to introduce returning and new winter guests to a variety of attractions and activities in the area.
“We are always so delighted to see the return of our winter guests,” Joanie Flynn, vice president of marketing for the CVB, said. “These welcome center demonstrations showcase all that there is to do in the area as our guests will have the chance to interact with the local business representatives. While they are in either the Gulf Shores (GSWC) or Orange Beach Welcome Centers (OBWC), I also encourage them to pick up a copy of our Winter Wanderings newsletter, which is designed specifically for them.”
Dates and times for the demonstations are listed below.
The book signing on Monday, Jan. 6 is presented by Beach Books and Movies in Orange Beach and is set to feature local authors Paris Love, Sonny Brewer, Margaret Cunningham, Hense R. Ellis II, Chris Warner, Joe Gilchrist, Billy J Brown II, Mark. J. Hainds and Margaret Childress Long.
The Gulf Shores center (3150 Gulf Shores Pkwy.) is located on Highway 59 just north of the Intracoastal Waterway and across from The Track. The Orange Beach center (23685 Perdido Beach Blvd.) can be found on Highway 182 East about one-fourth of a mile west of Wintzell’s Oyster House. Please note that dates and times are subject to change.
Paris Love is the author of “Growing Pains,” which is a story about best friends searching for true love through good times and bad as they try to stay afloat and ahead of the game. It captures the innocence of the heart, mind, body and soul of friends who grow up searching for what we all desire – respect, loyalty and most of all, love and companionship.
Sonny Brewer is a writer, editor and founder of Over the Transom Bookstore in Fairhope, Ala. His novels include “The Poet of Tolstoy Park,” “A Sound Like Thunder,” “The Widow and the Tree,” and “Cormac – The Tale of a Dog Gone Missing.”
Margaret P. Cunningham is an author of three romantic/comedy/mystery novels: “Always Charlie,” “One True Place” and “Lily in Bloom,” winner of the 2008 Golden Rose Award for best contemporary romance. Her short stories have won awards in national contests and published in magazines and anthologies including five “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books.
Hense R. Ellis II is a former assistant attorney general and University of Alabama Law School graduate, who penned the novel “LawSchool,” a murder mystery blended with a coming-of-age story, all set in and around the University of Alabama with multiple scenes placed at recognizable Alabama landmarks.
Chris Warner and Joe Gilchrist are the authors of “Bushwacked at the Flora-Bama.” Gilchrist tells the history of the Flora-Bama, its inauspicious start, its phoenix-like rise and tragic, near demise at the destructive hands of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. He chronicles his quixotic run as a fun-loving and free-wheeling entrepreneur during what was, undeniably, a much simpler time, as well as his thoughts about the uncertain future of our great country and free market capitalism in, what is today, an increasingly difficult small business climate.
Billy J Brown II wrote “Rising from the Ashes,” which is a book about turning tragedy into victory. Brown was burned in a car accident at age 2 and survived. He has lived his life at the highest level and now wants to share his keys to success in your life.
Mark. J. Hainds is the author of “Year of the Pig.” It is a personal journal of one avid hunter's pursuit of wild pigs in 11 American states during the Chinese calendar's Year of the Pig (2007). He is also a research associate and forester at AuburnUniversity's SolonDixonForestryCenter.
Margaret Childress Long wrote “The Best Place to Be: The Story of Orange Beach, Alabama,” which is an overview of the history of Orange Beach during the last 100 years or so, during which the city transformed from a coastal wilderness into a fast-growing modern resort. The book focuses on the importance of the charter fishing industry to that development.
