December 08, 2009 - Washington DC & Orange Beach, AL (OBA) - U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today sent a letter to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Administer Dr. Jane Lubchenco, expressing his concern about the adverse impact overly strict federal regulation of red snapper has on Alabama’s recreational and charter fisherman, its fishing industry, and coastal communities.
“Alabama’s fishing industry represents hundreds of millions of dollars of economic impact for the state each year,” said Shelby. “However, due to overly stringent federal regulations, Alabama fishermen have suffered severe reductions in their red snapper catch for a number of years – at a time when fishermen are encountering record numbers of, and increasingly large, red snapper...

Orange Beach, AL (OBA)- During the
Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival (FBISF), I had an
opportunity to become friends with a couple of the songwriters visiting
our area. I have always wanted to know what type of people wrote words
with music that sounded like I felt, so I asked Doug Gill and Lynn
Langham if I could interview them. After visiting with Doug and Lynn, I
understood the phrase "These people give with their hearts every day."

November 17, 2009 - Orange Beach, AL (OBA) - The 25th
Annual Frank Brown International Songwriters' Festival has hit
the half-way point. With only six days left to see live
performances by the songwriters, it's a good time to check out the
schedule and make your plans. You can view the schedules by songwriter,
venue or a
daily schedule.
This year about two-hundred
songwriters from around the world are
performing at 15
venues
along the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast.
Writers who attend the Frank Brown Songwriters' Festival truly enjoy
performing their original works. As several of
the songwriters have said, performing at this festival is like nothing
they have ever experienced... the people who attend these shows truly
appreciate the art. |

Orcas and Beaked Whales and Great
Whites, oh my! |
| August 4, 2009 - Orange
Beach, AL (OBA) - This past year
has seen more than its fair share of amazing fish and marine mammal
stories coming out of Orange Beach. Last October 31st, Capt. Eddie Hall
and anglers on the Shady Lady spotted about 200 Killer Whales 90 miles
south of Orange Beach. On June 6th of this year, Lea Scruggs and his
friends fishing on the Wahooter had a close encounter with a beaked
whale about 35 miles south of Orange Beach. And now, Capt. Chip Day of
Chipper's Clipper and his fishing team spotted a Great White Shark about
40 miles southeast of Perdido Pass. |

While the picture doesn't do justice to the
encounter,
the verbal descriptions from the experienced anglers
pretty much confirm it was a Great White sighting. |

July 9, 2009 - Orange
Beach, AL (OBA) - It was another
beautiful day on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Local angler Lea Scruggs and
his friends Jessica Simpson, Melvin Lowdermilk and Shelby Wolven headed
out on Scruggs boat, the Wahooter, for a day of offshore fishing in the
Gulf of Mexico.
When the Wahooter Fishing Team started out that morning, they didn't
expect to have such an exciting tale to tell, especially not another
Whale Tale from the Gulf of Mexico story originating from Orange
Beach, Alabama.
