|Snowbirds flock to welcome centers for art, author series|
|January 12, 2013, Orange Beach, AL (OBA)- Winter guests are invited to get their creative juices flowing this January at the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Welcome Centers during the Art, Artisans and Authors series. Local artisans will present unique demonstrations to promote the distinctive arts and culture scene found on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. “We’re delighted to offer a unique collection of exhibits to our snowbird guests, bringing attention to the rich culture found right here in our coastal community,” said Joanie Flynn, vice president of marketing for Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism. “We greatly appreciate all of our snowbird visitors for choosing Gulf Shores and Orange Beach as their home away from home.” While there will be no coffee and cookies available as in recent years, welcome center visitors will be given the special opportunity to catch a glimpse of the many artistic outlets in the area. For example, Life’s a Canvas’ presentation will illustrate their step-by-step approach to painting for any skill level. If jewelry-making is of interest, Blue Girl Beading will show how they provide hands-on jewelry-making sessions. Additionally, Just Books will present a book signing with local authors. The Coastal Arts Center will have a display in the Orange Beach Welcome Center throughout the month featuring Adam Burges, resident glass artist at The Hot Shop, Alabama’s only public-access hot glass studio. Resident ceramic artist at The Clay Studio, Abby Leach, will also be featured among other member artists of the Coastal Arts Center. Other talents that will grace the centers include demonstrations on looming from Clara’s Loom, quilting from SEA Quilt Shoppe and more.
