Orange Beach Library series focuses on ecosystems

January 6, 2012 - Orange Beach, AL (OBA) - In late January, Orange Beach Public Library will host a number of programs exploring ecosystems in Alabama.

On Jan. 25 Philip West, Coastal Resources Manager for the City of Orange Beach will present After the Fire: The Backcountry Trail. His presentation will discuss the damages and after effects of the Gulf Coast State Park Fire of June-July 2011 on the Backcountry Trail.  His presentation will be held at the Senior Activity Center at 6 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is recommended and may be done online at the events calendar at www.orangebeachlibrary.org.

 

 

On Jan. 26, 2012, authors Roger Reid and Mark Hainds will visit the Orange Beach Elementary School to speak to the fifth- and sixth-grade students. Roger Reid is the author of Longleaf, Space, and Time. He is a three time Emmy-award winning writer/producer for the Discovering Alabama public television series.

Mark Hainds is the author of theYear of the Pig and Coordinator for the Longleaf Alliance and a Research Associate with Auburn University. All of their books can be found and checked out at the Orange Beach Public Library. This program is closed to public.  

   

At 6 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2012, Roger Reid and Mark Hainds will present “Write on the Edge” at the Orange Beach Public Library. Knee deep in alligators, face to face with wild boars and yet these guys somehow managed to live long enough to write about it.

The authors will share lessons learned from a lifetime of working in the wilds. This program will be presented again on Jan. 27, 2012 at 4 p.m. at the Orange Beach Public Library. These programs are made possible by Discovering Alabama and are sponsored by the Orange Beach Public Library.These events are free and open to the public.  Registration is recommended for these two programs.
