FOLEY, Alabama — The south Baldwin County economy continues to bounce back from the oil spill and other setbacks of the last several years, Foley Mayor John Koniar told members of the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.
In the annual State of the City address Tuesday, Koniar said Foley’s city income picked up in the last fiscal year, even though property taxes dropped $107,000 due to lower assessments.

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WALA) – One of the board of directors for Gulf Coast Youth Reach, Billy Berrey, said nearly $3,000 of items donated to the program to help troubled youth were stolen from a storage unit in Orange Beach.

GULF SHORES, Alabama — The pairings for Friday and Saturday’s AHSAA softball regional at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex have been set, and four teams from Baldwin County are vying for a spot in next week’s softball state tournament in Montgomery.
In Class 6A, Fairhope and Daphne advance to the regional and in 5A Spanish Fort and Gulf Shores advanced. All four teams will play in the regional tournament on Friday.

FOLEY, Ala. — A Foley man is currently in jail for allegedly raping an elderly woman.
According to Foley Police Chief David White, authorities were summoned to a West Myrtle Avenue residence at approximately 12:15 a.m. Thursday by an elderly woman who reported that “a lone offender forcefully entered her residence through the back door and dragged her into a bedroom and beat, choked and raped her.”

FAIRHOPE, Alabama — Baldwin County EMA Director Mitchell Sims named Reggie Chitwood as his choice to fill the open deputy director’s slot for the agency at today’s county commission work session.
