The Hangout Music Festival and 92ZEW have teamed up for Reach for the Beach competition. The winner of this “battle of the bands” will get the opportunity to perform at this year’s Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, AL. This contest is open to unsigned artists anywhere in the state of Alabama or within 100 miles of Gulf Shores.

Girl Talk, Iron & Wine, Wolfmother and Dumpstaphunk are among the acts that will perform at the Kickoff Party for the 2014 Hangout Music Fest, organizers have announced.
The Kickoff Party takes place May 15, preceding the three-day festival. Kickoff Party acts perform on some of the secondary stages at the festival site, located on the beach in Gulf Shores.

GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) – It was pretty quiet around The Hangout this morning at 9 a.m. No one really came out to see the Hangout Festival Lineup hit the wall. They watched it from the web instead.
“We were making a joke earlier: you’re not looking at your fax machine to find out what the lineup is today,” Brad Cohen, director of operations for The Hangout, said.
GULF SHORES, AL – A 9 a.m. press conference will take place at the Gulf Shores Public Beach to announce the lineup for the fifth annual Hangout Music Festival.
The lineup of the 2014 Hangout Music Fest will be unveiled Wednesday, Jan. 15, with tickets going on sale the following day, organizers have announced.
The three-day fest typically features two main stages plus three smaller venues.
GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) – Business owners around Gulf Shores expressed mixed reviews to the city’s recently announced Hangout study results that show the event brought in around $31 million dollars in 2013.
While the businesses on the beach clearly reap the rewards, others said they don’t see much of a boost from the festivities.
GULF SHORES, AL – Earlier this year, Mayor Robert Craft and members of the City Council voted to hire Auburn University Professor of Economics, M. Keivan Deravi, Ph.D, to conduct a study on the economic impact derived from the Hangout Music Festival as part of the City’s ongoing efforts to bolster the “shoulder season” economy. Today, the results from that study were released.
In all, the study estimated the festival’s total economic impact on the local economy at more than $31 million of goods and services purchased and 518 full time equivalent jobs.
In the past, the Hangout Music Fest has offered limited Black Friday ticket sales. This year, the Gulf Shores festival is offering something different: An ongoing scavenger hunt for a chance to win tickets to the 2014 fest.
Participants must follow the Hangout on Instagram (@HangoutFest) for clues to locations where tickets are hidden. According to information on the festival’s Facebook page, tickets will be hidden in “different cities throughout the Southest.”

GULF SHORES, Alabama – Two competitions at the Hangout will turn Gulf Shores into Muscle Beach on Saturday. The TOADS Push-Pull Powerlifting Challenge and the Alabama’s Strongest Man contest will be going on concurrently for much of Saturday morning.
The TOADS Push-Pull Powerlifting Challenge will feature competition in the bench press and deadlift. The format of Alabama’s Strongest Man will remind spectators of the World’s Strongest Man competitions seen on ESPN.
