ORANGE BEACH, Alabama — Gov. Robert Bentley declared a state of emergency for Baldwin County on Monday, as a wildfire spread through the Gulf State Park for the third straight day, creeping under dried vegetation on the swamp floor.
A friend of mine over at the Wildlife Department told me today that he read my column in the newspaper Sunday on the deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico to Orange Beach, Ala., and kept expecting to read about my fishing trip.
“Surely, you didn’t go all that way and not go fishing?” he asked.
I guess he expected a tale from the Old Man and the Sea. My story is not Hemingwayesque but, yes, I did go fishing.
GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) – Officials aren't 100 percent sure, but they have a very good idea of what started the fire.
Gulf Shores State Park Superintendent Mike Guinn said an ember from a grill is more than likely what caused the massive fire in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach to start.
Guinn said they have no proof, but he does know charcoal is not to blame for the blaze.

FORT PICKENS – A 14-year-old boy is recovering tonight after being bit by what may have been a shark off Fort Pickens.
Emergency crews say the teen had two small puncture wounds to his lower leg and is expected to be OK.
They are still trying to determine what bit him.
