Tuesday, June 28th, 2011A friend of mine over at the Wildlife Department told me today that he read my column in the newspaper Sunday on the deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico to Orange Beach, Ala., and kept expecting to read about my fishing trip.
“Surely, you didn’t go all that way and not go fishing?” he asked.
I guess he expected a tale from the Old Man and the Sea. My story is not Hemingwayesque but, yes, I did go fishing.

Gulf Shores State Park Superintendent Mike Guinn said an ember from a grill is more than likely what caused the massive fire in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach to start.
Guinn said they have no proof, but he does know charcoal is not to blame for the blaze.

A brush fire in the Gulf State Park has burned 400 acres and is growing bigger.
Crews are creating a new plan on how to tackle this fire.
The Alabama Forestry Commission says what started as a small fire on Saturday here at Gulf State part has turned into a huge wildfire burning now 450 acres in just 48 hours. They say their biggest concern is keeping this line of containment to keep these structures from becoming in the line of danger.”

Emergency crews say the teen had two small puncture wounds to his lower leg and is expected to be OK.
They are still trying to determine what bit him.
