Artificial Fishing Reefs are the main reason that the Alabama Gulf Coast is such a popular destination for
Sportfisherman.
Besides their use as an prolific fish habitat, artificial reefs are now being
deployed for coastal protection from erosion caused by wind and wave
action on shorelines.
On this page you will find that Orange Beach is home to a world-renowned

Artificial fishing reefs start the food chain and
give small, developing fish a
place to hide from the larger predatory fish. Alabama's
Artificial Fishing Reef Program
is the envy of Sportfisherman in
all of our neighboring states. More than 50,000 artificial fishing reefs
have been deployed in Alabama waters.
Alabama has recently approved an inshore reef that waterfront property
owners can install under their piers. These 5'x5' ECO
Reefs (pictured above) are made up of layers of Florida limestone. The design provides a
larger surface area that
quickly gets the food chain started, and thus
quickly attracts fish.
