Spanning several genres and styles, Pale Moon Rising provides a truly unique listening experience. Damien combines poignant lyrics and superb vocals to embrace his audiences. John’s flawless execution of tasteful lead guitar and vocals provides richness to the sound. Tim lays the groundwork with his distinctive bass playing. Steve keeps tempo for the quartet on a pair of congas. All four lend vocal harmonies to the mix.
The four members have very diverse musical backgrounds and each bring their individual style to the performance.
Damien’s roots are imbedded in the 1960s Greenwich Village Folk scene where he performed from 1964-68 and was exposed firsthand to the likes of Bob Dylan, Richie Havens and Joan Baez. “Damien’s heart is still in the coffee houses of the 60’s,” says band manager and promoter Mark Cooper. “He is a poet at heart drawing pictures with his words, while singing from the soul.”
Singer/songwriter and Baldwin County native John, has performed globally and co-written with some of the greats including Mickey Newbury, Steve Earl, Sonny Throckmorton and even Ringo Starr. “John’s guitar playing can make you want to dance, laugh, cry,” said Jon Fenton, a St. Clair Shores, MI vacationer who saw John perform at
The Jellyfish Bar on Perdido Key...“or just make it seem as if you are alone on a beach listening to the waves.”
Tim, who plays several instruments, grew up in Columbus, OH and cites his top three musical influences as The Band, The Beatles, and Ry Cooder. He is also a luthier, creating his own acoustic bass guitars. “Tim is absolutely incredible to listen to and really fun to watch,” said Dorothy Garrett, a paralegal at a Pensacola law firm. “He is the most animated bass guitarist I have ever seen.”
Steve, who was affectionately dubbed the “Skins Doctor” by legendary singer/songwriter Rusty McHugh, is a world renowned sociologist and professor at the University of Southern Alabama by day. He sat in last week with Damien and John and was immediately invited to join the band. “Steve brings not only tempo but a great sense of humor to the stage,” said Damien. “Undoubtedly, all that time with Rusty and Mike (Fincher) left a residual comedic timing.”
During one recent (and the only) rehearsal session at Condado Productions Studio in Perdido, someone broke out a small hand-held recording device and captured Damien, John and Tim playing
I Know You Rider for the first time. “I could tell it was going to be a great song for them,” said Mark who was part of a small throng of friends and fans attending the session. “It just fit their styles so well both instrumentally and vocally.”
Pale Moon Rising will be booking locally for the rest of the summer and you can see their schedule at

years, I can tell you that spectators at their shows are never disappointed.

Moon Rising band.
