Whale Tales from the Gulf of Mexico
|
| March 20, 2009 - Orange Beach, AL - Sightings of the four large pods of
Killer Whales (Orcas) 90 miles south
of Orange Beach last summer by the
Shady Lady Charter Boat garnered a
lot of attention worldwide. While sightings of Killer Whales in
the northern Gulf of Mexico is rare, it is highly unusual
to see so many at one time.

What a lot of people don't realize is
that it's
not unusual for deep sea fishing boats to see sperm and other whales in the Northern
Gulf of Mexico. Their are 31 species of whales and dolphins that make their home in the Gulf of Mexico.
The video below is a one-hour
discussion presented by Dr. Kevin Millin, Marine Mammal Program Manager for the Southeast Fisheries Science Center.
The Center is based in Miami, with a satellite office in Pascagoula, MS. |
